Trail Hunt International Foundations

Trail Hunt International is a scent sport where your dog follows a specific odour trail. It is designed to be fun, accessible, and suitable for any dog, with a focus on building confidence, focus, and enjoyment.

This Foundations Course is your starting point.

It provides a clear, structured introduction to the sport, teaching both you and your dog how the game works through a series of progressive exercises.

Course Structure

The course is delivered over 4 x 1-hour sessions, allowing your dog to learn at a steady pace and build understanding step by step.

Across the course, your dog will:

• Learn to recognise and follow the target odour
• Build confidence working across different environments
• Develop focus and independence on the trail

You will learn how to:

• Read your dog’s behaviour and indications
• Support them effectively while they work
• Progress your training both in sessions and at home

What’s Included

Your Foundations Course includes everything you need to get started:

• Theory Video (sent before your first session)
  A clear introduction to how Trail Hunt works, what to expect, and how to prepare. You can watch this in your own time and revisit it whenever needed.
• Trail Pod Starter Kit (worth £16)
• Dog Registration with ID Card (worth £30)
• Training Log Book
• Goodie Bag (including treats, food voucher, pin badge, and pen)
• Certificate of Completion

How It’s Taught

Foundations are taught on a 1-to-1 basis, or as a pair if you would like to train with a friend.

This allows:

• Training to be tailored to your dog
• A calm, low-pressure learning environment
• The flexibility to work at your dog’s pace

What Happens Next

Once you’ve completed the Foundations Course, you can move on to Trail Hunt standard sessions. And the Foundations Plus course.

These are mixed level sessions can be booked flexibly and allow you to continue building your skills, confidence, and experience over time.
